The present study investigated the effect of two specific variables on athletes\u2019 perceptions of team cohesion: starting status and gender. Previous research has provided evidence to suggest that starting status can affect team cohesion. Evidence also suggests that there is a strong relationship between gender and cohesion. Though previous research supports the existence of relationships between both starting status and cohesion and gender and cohesion, more current research needs to be done to evaluate these relationships and the interaction between these variables. A total of 105 participants (male = 27, female = 78), ages 18 to 23 (M = 19.79, SD = 1.25) completed an online survey to participate in the study. The Group Environment Questionnaire (GEQ) was used to measure athletes\u2019 perceptions of team cohesion. Four total scores were calculated from the GEQ, which measured group integration-task (GI-T), group integration-social (GI-S), individual attractions to group-task (ATG-T), and individual attractions to group social (ATG-S). A 2-way MANOVA (Multivariate Analysis of Variance) was used to determine both starting status differences and gender differences in perceptions of cohesion. Results indicated that there was no significant difference found between starter and non-starter perceptions of team cohesion or between male and female perceptions of team cohesion. However, there were several other variables that significantly influenced perceptions of team cohesion, including time of season, role satisfaction, and sport type. The present study is both consistent and contradictory to previous research, and indicates many areas for future research as well as considerations for applied practice." ] } }, { "label": { "en": [ "Classification" ] }, "value": { "none": [ "GV706.4.R53 2017" ] } }, { "label": { "en": [ "Publication Date" ] }, "value": { "none": [ "2017" ] } }, { "label": { "en": [ "Genre" ] }, "value": { "none": [ "Academic theses" ] } }, { "label": { "en": [ "Holding Location" ] }, "value": { "none": [ "Barry University Archives and Special Collections" ] } }, { "label": { "en": [ "Resource Identifier" ] }, "value": { "none": [ "GV706.4.R53 2017_RichardsonLynae" ] } }, { "label": { "en": [ "Language" ] }, "value": { "none": [ "English" ] } }, { "label": { "en": [ "Permanent Link" ] }, "value": { "none": [ "http://sobekcmsrv.barrynet.barry.edu/AA00001229/00001" ] } }, { "label": { "en": [ "Creator" ] }, "value": { "none": [ "Richardson, Lynae" ] } }, { "label": { "en": [ "Note" ] }, "value": { "none": [ "Thesis (M.S.)--Barry University, 2017.", "Includes bibliographical references (leaves 76-79)." ] } }, { "label": { "en": [ "Physical Description" ] }, "value": { "none": [ "87 leaves ; 28 cm" ] } }, { "label": { "en": [ "Publisher" ] }, "value": { "none": [ "Barry University" ] } }, { "label": { "en": [ "Place of Publication" ] }, "value": { "none": [ "Miami, Fla." ] } }, { "label": { "en": [ "Type" ] }, "value": { "none": [ "Book" ] } }, { "label": { "en": [ "Rights Management" ] }, "value": { "none": [ "Copyright Lynae Richardson.
