Lobbying is one of the main forms of influence the Power Elite has. Highly paid lobbyists influence our politicians \u2013 swaying their decisions on the laws that mainly affect the everyday lives of the working class. In particular, five major industries \u2013 Police Unions, Private Prison Industry, Prison Guard Unions, the Alcohol and Beer Industry, and the Pharmaceutical Industry \u2013 have all lobbied heavily against the legalization of both medical and recreational use of marijuana. With the legalization of marijuana, these industries would be significantly affected financially \u2013 and in the process \u2013 losing not only profits, but power and influence as well. Acting on behalf of their self-serving agendas, these industries work with lobbyists to continue the prohibition of marijuana. Working against these five major anti-marijuana industries, small organizations \u2013 such as the Drug Police Alliance \u2013 have contributed to the movement to legalize marijuana and have succeeded in many cases across the country. Through hard work and small donations, these organizations work to protect their class interest and futures. The marijuana industry, if legalized, could create many economic opportunities for those not currently a part of this Power Elite. As a result, the legalization of marijuana would have a significant impact on the Power Elite\u2019s influence on future laws and regulations concerning marijuana and the marijuana industry." ] } }, { "label": { "en": [ "Classification" ] }, "value": { "none": [ "KFC3891.M2 L66 2016" ] } }, { "label": { "en": [ "Publication Date" ] }, "value": { "none": [ "2016" ] } }, { "label": { "en": [ "Genre" ] }, "value": { "none": [ "Academic theses" ] } }, { "label": { "en": [ "Holding Location" ] }, "value": { "none": [ "Barry University Archives and Special Collections" ] } }, { "label": { "en": [ "Resource Identifier" ] }, "value": { "none": [ "KFC3891.M2 L66 2016_LopesSamantha" ] } }, { "label": { "en": [ "Language" ] }, "value": { "none": [ "English" ] } }, { "label": { "en": [ "Permanent Link" ] }, "value": { "none": [ "http://sobekcmsrv.barrynet.barry.edu/AA00001329/00001" ] } }, { "label": { "en": [ "Creator" ] }, "value": { "none": [ "Lopes, Samantha E." ] } }, { "label": { "en": [ "Note" ] }, "value": { "none": [ "Thesis (Honors)--Barry University, 2016.", "Includes bibliographical references (leaves 34-38)." ] } }, { "label": { "en": [ "Physical Description" ] }, "value": { "none": [ "vii, 40 leaves 28 cm" ] } }, { "label": { "en": [ "Publisher" ] }, "value": { "none": [ "Barry University" ] } }, { "label": { "en": [ "Place of Publication" ] }, "value": { "none": [ "Miami, Fla." ] } }, { "label": { "en": [ "Type" ] }, "value": { "none": [ "Book" ] } }, { "label": { "en": [ "Rights Management" ] }, "value": { "none": [ "Copyright Samantha E.
