It is imperative that effective interventions to reduce the spread of this disease be based on the value system of Nigerian young adults and the factors that lead to their decisions in this regard. Purpose: This study examined the predictive relationships of attitudes and subjective norms to the behavioral intention of Nigerian young adults to use condoms during sexual intercourse for prevention of HIV infection. Theoretical Framework: The theory of reasoned action provided the theoretical framework for the study. Methods: This study progressed through three phases. The first two phases culminated in the development of an instrument (the TRA) used to collect data from a sample of the target population. These data were used to measure the theoretical constructs and carry out hypotheses testing. Statistical methods included procedures to enhance assure quality of the data, and describe the samples, the outcomes, and the relationships of the variables. Results: The results showed that attitudes toward condom use and subjective norms, the perception of the opinions of significant groups and the motivation to comply with that perceived opinion, are positively and significantly correlated to the behavioral intention to use condoms for sexual intercourse among the sample of young Nigerian adults.
