Public opinion has maintained such a relationship exists. Social scientists and consumer advocates have questioned or denied any connection, believing the best indicator of future violence or criminal violent activity is a person\u2019s previous history of violence or criminal violent activity. Recent epidemiologic (prevalence), clinical (judgement) and actuarial (statistical) surveys, employing more advanced methodology than earlier research, suggest evidence linking mental disorder and violence. Key research questions under examination have been: Is there a relationship between mental disorder and violence? Is mental disorder an empirically verifiable risk factor for the occurrence of violence? Is there a way to differentiate between people with mental disorders who will be violent from those who will not be violent? Related examination of these concerns is ongoing in the areas of mental health law and policy, and in moral, ethical and political arenas. Concomitant understanding and integration of the most current research on the prediction of interpersonal violence and its practice implications are essential for social workers engaged with violent or potentially violent clientele, potential or actual victims, family members of potentially or actually violent persons, and other professionals. With the direct and indirect practice needs of social workers in focus, this paper reviews the literature, theory, and research on interpersonal violence among the mentally ill population." ] } }, { "label": { "en": [ "Classification" ] }, "value": { "none": [ "HM 1116 .S43 1999" ] } }, { "label": { "en": [ "Publication Date" ] }, "value": { "none": [ "1999" ] } }, { "label": { "en": [ "Genre" ] }, "value": { "none": [ "Academic theses" ] } }, { "label": { "en": [ "Holding Location" ] }, "value": { "none": [ "Barry University Archives and Special Collections" ] } }, { "label": { "en": [ "Resource Identifier" ] }, "value": { "none": [ "HM 1116 .S43 1999_ShapiroSidney" ] } }, { "label": { "en": [ "Language" ] }, "value": { "none": [ "English" ] } }, { "label": { "en": [ "Permanent Link" ] }, "value": { "none": [ "http://sobekcmsrv.barrynet.barry.edu/AA00001799/00001" ] } }, { "label": { "en": [ "Creator" ] }, "value": { "none": [ "Shapiro, Sidney" ] } }, { "label": { "en": [ "Note" ] }, "value": { "none": [ "Thesis (M.S.)--Barry University, 1999.", "Includes bibliographical references (leaves 171-190)." ] } }, { "label": { "en": [ "Physical Description" ] }, "value": { "none": [ "190 leaves ; 28 cm" ] } }, { "label": { "en": [ "Publisher" ] }, "value": { "none": [ "Barry University" ] } }, { "label": { "en": [ "Place of Publication" ] }, "value": { "none": [ "Miami, Fla." ] } }, { "label": { "en": [ "Type" ] }, "value": { "none": [ "Book" ] } }, { "label": { "en": [ "Rights Management" ] }, "value": { "none": [ "Copyright Sidney Shapiro.
