Notes

Abstract:
Indirect aggression consists of verbal and physical aggression that damages relationships through covert means. It can consist of rumors, gossip, destruction of property, or manipulation. Studies have found that women use this form of aggression in social group interactions. The present study examined the occurrence of indirect aggressive behaviors in heterosexual and lesbian relationships. Participants provided information regarding the expression of indirect aggressive behaviors in romantic relationships, best female friendships, mother/ mother-figure relationships, and female co-worker relationships. Lesbians had lower level of gender-role conformity, higher quality of romantic relationships, and less indirect aggressive behaviors in romantic partner relationships than heterosexual women.
