Notes
- Abstract:
- Scholars writing during the past five years concerning the Johannine tradition often compare their conclusions to those of one or more of their peers who are prominent in biblical criticism. I will not be discussing the basic views of these other theologians if their writings are previous to 1982. They are cited here only where a current author has used a direct comparison or contrast to a specific interpretation of theirs. I would like, however, to particularly acknowledge here the enormous groundwork done in Johannine study by Rudolf Schnackenburg and Raymond Brown. Their basic treatment of the Johannine tradition is cited over and over by current theologians I have studied. I also acknowledge my own debt to their commentaries. They were my point of departure for this discussion of current theological scholarship on the Gospel of John.
