Abstract:
and opportunities with the knowledge and support of the rich tradition of the Orthodox faith. Its specific ministerial concern centers on the reality that the faithful have the tools to sustain and restore their spiritual and temporal lives, but are often impeded by trials of life from using them effectively. The project employed a survey to ascertain the parishioners’ satisfaction with prayer life and worship, understanding of the sacramental life, and hopes for the parish community. In response, it proposed practical initiatives and programs centered on three components of spiritual growth, namely, purification, illumination, and union. In addition to its application to a specific parish, this project contributes to a pilot program within the Family Wellness initiative proposed by His Eminence Gerasimos, Metropolitan of San Francisco. Thus, its goal includes not only addressing the needs of the parishioners at Holy Apostles, but also the faithful of the Greek Orthodox Diocese of San Francisco and of the western United States as well.
