520 3    |a This thesis project examines what the Catholic community in Palm Beach County (hence PBC) knows about the practice of spiritual direction (hence SD), assesses their needs regarding this ministry and brings a renewed awareness to the ancient and enduring tradition of this discipline for this community. The author aim is to provide a broader understanding of the fundamental components of this practice in the hopes that information and increased access will provide spiritual renewal for Christians within selected areas of PBC. Using practical theological methodology, the author has gathered and analyzed data generated by completed questionnaires of parishioners from four selected parishes in Palm Beach, Florida, through which Lee-Fatt determined the level of awareness that this community has concerning the tradition of SD. Based on these results, the author provides resources that would help to facilitate access to this ministry as a guided encounter primarily with God, self, and others, as a way of promoting renewal in this practice within the Catholic Parishes in the area of research. Pope Francis reminds the Church that there is a kind of missionary renewal afoot which has to do with bringing the Gospel to those we meet. This renewal takes place even in the middle of an ordinary conversation in any place and at any time, (Evangelii Gaudium # 127). This renewal that Pope Francis references aligns with the author’s own concerted efforts to promote awareness of the practice of spiritual direction within selected areas of Palm Beach County.
