520 3    |a The purpose of this study was to identify the impact of the perceived leader member exchange (LMX) on levels of employee stress and organizational and interpersonal citizenship behaviors. Both linear and non-linear relationships were investigated. Professional groups that communicate on-line were the target audience. The resulting sample consisted of 94 respondents. Participants were asked to rate their perceptions of their immediate supervisor, their reported levels of job stress as well as their own helping behaviors within the organization via an online survey. A curvilinear relationship was found between LMX and reported levels of stress. Stress, however, did not mediate the relationship between LMX and helping behaviors. Strengths, limitations and directions for future research are discussed.
