|a The presence of Personal/Group Discrimination Discrepancy (PGDD) among lesbian women, gay men, and bisexual individuals (LGB) was explored. PGDD occurs when individuals who are targets of discrimination perceive that a higher level of discrimination is directed towards their group than to themselves (Fuegen & Biernat, 2000). Participants (N = 95) were randomly assigned to one of four vignettes and asked to rate how much they feel discriminated against personally and as a group. Afterward, participants responded to a questionnaire that assessed their sexual orientation openness with two questions embedded that addressed participants’ perception of personal and group discrimination in their everyday lives. Results showed that participants perceive personal and group discrimination equally rather than objectively through the manipulated vignettes. In addition, participants reported higher levels of personal than of group discrimination in terms of their everyday lives. This suggests that, unlike in other minority groups, PGDD is not replicated among LGB. |
