Notes

Abstract:
Men have historically been dominant figures as women have been widely marginalized not only in society but even more so in the workplace. This study addresses, among other issues, the demographic and experiences of women in Belize who hold leadership positions. The goal of this study is to further explore the lack of representation women have in the public sector and underscore their importance/contributions. The research conducted is a mixed methods research. For the qualitative section, 10 women leaders in the public sector/government were asked to participate. These women leaders/participants are Politicians, Senators, Ministers, CEOs or Heads of Departments. A purposive (non-probability) sampling method was used to recruit those in specific leadership roles. Interviews were coded thematically and eight major themes arose ranging from women’s leadership styles to mentorship and lack of financing within the country for women’s empowerment initiatives. For the quantitative section, with a goal of 50 participants, the public’s opinion on female leaders will be asked. A 5-point Likert-scale survey was distributed online via (non-probability) volunteer sampling.
