- Abstract:
- Purpose for the Study : The purpose of this study was to evaluate an early intervention program for children who attended the privately funded Two-Year-Old program that was available to all the residents of the Tangelo Park Community in Orlando, Florida. Method : A causal-comparative, ex-post-facto research design was used in this study to compare the academic performance and social competence of a group of children during the 2007-2008 school year who had attended a preschool program to the performance of a control group who did not participate in the preschool program. Major Findings : The t-test analyses showed there was no statistically significant difference between FCAT Math scores and FCAT Reading scores for the students who participated in the preschool program as compared to those who did not participate in the preschool program. There was also no significant difference between the School Social Behavior Scale scores of the students who participated in the preschool program and those who did not participate in the preschool program. These findings are consistent with much of the previous research on the Head Start program. Recommendations for future research and implications for practice are discussed. ( , )
