|a The goal of this research project is to examine the linguistic differences between men and women. For many years, researchers have suggested that although men and women can learn to speak the same way, they are socially conditioned to communicate differently. These differences in linguistics between genders have contributed to the history of women’s stratification, the unequal distribution of power between men and women in society, and social pressure which makes women use language differently than men. In this project, speech patterns in women and in man will be examined. The project will also analyze cultural differences in the language of both genders in order to find the reasons why males and females have such different speech styles. The range of gendered speech patterns in the project will include: tag questions, hedges, word choice, obliges, body language, interruptives, storytelling and other speech patterns. The methodology will include a content analysis of video clips from Youtube. |
