|a This experiment was designed to examine the effectiveness of educational pamphlets in improving adults’ ability to detect adolescent depression. One hundred and one participants read a vignette about a depressed teenager and reported their ratings of perceived depression. Prior to reading the vignette, some participants received an educational pamphlet about depression and another group received no information. The hypothesis that participants who read the pamphlet would exhibit greater accuracy in their depression ratings as compared to control participants was not supported. Further research is needed to investigate effective methods of educating laypeople about adolescent depression. |
