- Abstract:
- In this paper I explore my artistic and familial influences, as well as the origins of the processes I use to create my artwork. I begin with the circumstances of my birth and move on to major trials I faced in early adulthood, laying them out as a foundation for readers to reference. I discuss skills picked up from my mother and techniques I later learned to use in high school, undergraduate and graduate school, which I used to create this body of work, which cathartically reflects on my origins. My intent is for the viewer of my work to have a deeper understanding of how and why I created the images in my thesis exhibition, which is the culmination of many years of artistic experimentation. Each viewer will have an interpretation that is uniquely their own but will have their understanding of my work enriched by this writing.
